Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? (Martin)

This is one of my favorite children's books because of the repetition it has as well as the creative possibilities. Not only do children learn colors and animals, but they also learn the story quickly because of the repetitive nature of it. This story is one that lends itself to the production of puppets and/or plays to begin with but then can also lead to the creation of their own stories using the repetitive format. This is a book that children can learn to read quite quickly and again, it is due to the repetitive nature of the book. Repetition is key for children and learning to read.

  1. Denise,

This was always the first read aloud I used in Kindergarten. It is such a stimulus for encouraging students to believe in themselves and that they CAN read!

    Great beginning Blog!

  2. Denise,
That book is one of my favorites also... As a teacher I love how many different activities I could pull out of just that book. I enjoy books that are user friendly to teachers.
